2 9676/05/O/N/22 © UCLES 2022 Translate into Urdu: The colour green has always been associated with nature and living things like plants, grass and trees. It is an indicator of life; the gardener who sees a flower’s leaves turning brown knows that it is going to die unless action is taken to save it. However, towards the end of the last century the word ‘green’ acquired a more specific meaning and became a political term referring to the environment, our exploitation and misuse of natural resources, and the impact of pollution on our planet. If people are ‘green’, they try to live life in a way that respects nature and the world around them. This new awareness is increasingly making us think about the food we eat and the clothes we wear, how we heat and light our homes, the way we travel, how we produce food and what we do with our waste. These issues are high on the list of priorities for many nations, but the difficulty is that environmental concerns are closely linked to each country’s economy and most governments hesitate to take measures which might threaten economic stability. Finding the balance is the greatest challenge of our age. [40] … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … 1
