2 9689/51/O/N/18 © UCLES 2018 Translate into Tamil: Why do we travel? In the past if you worked internationally, there was no practical alternative to face- to-face interaction. In the business world, because time is money, this usually meant taking a flight even though it polluted the environment. These days we must ask ourselves if our journey is really necessary. With modern technology, it is possible to see the person you are speaking to even if they are thousands of miles away. However, holidays are seen differently. If you want to experience the wonders of the world, then an image on a screen is just not the same, and trying new foods at home cannot replace eating them in their country of origin. New sights, sounds, smells and tastes help us to feel refreshed. Nevertheless, the rise in travelling for pleasure is contributing to global warming. Is there an alternative to the aeroplane for far-away destinations? Are boats and trains less damaging to the planet? We have to find a balance between human curiosity and protecting the environment so that future generations have the same opportunities as we have now. [40] … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … …
