Section A Answer both questions. Natural fibres and fabrics are widely used in the production of textile items. 1 Identify two natural cellulosic fibres. [2] (i) (a) Explain how the two fibres identified in question 1(a)(i) are obtained. [4] (ii) Describe the process of making yarn from wool fibres. [4] (b) Discuss the desirable qualities that luxury hair fibres can give garments when blended with other natural or synthetic fibres. Include examples of fibres and fabrics to support your answer. [6] (c) Evaluate how different types of weaves can affect the performance characteristics of fabrics. Give examples of weaves, fabrics and garments in your answer. Section B Answer one question. There are a wide range of soft furnishings available for the home. 3 Describe two different fastenings which would be suitable for a cushion cover. [4] (a) Explain how the study of natural sources can inspire the development of designs for textile products in the home. Sketches may be included in the answer. [5] (b) Discuss the factors a manufacturer needs to consider when planning the production of a batch of cushion covers. [7] (c) Assess the use of hand and machine processes to add decoration to a cushion cover. Identify one suitable fabric and include two different types of embellishments. [4] (i) (a) Explain why the jacket designed in question 4(a)(i) is suitable to wear at a party.
