2 0983/31/M/J/24 © UCLES 2024 You have been supplied with the following source files: j2431contact.jpg j2431divers.csv j2431location.jpg j2431logo.png j2431splendid.csv j2431splendid.jpg j2431style.css j2431text.txt You will assist some marine biologists in analysing data on, and raising awareness of, the splendid toadfish. This is an endangered species only found in the reefs of Cozumel, Mexico. Task 1 – Evidence Document Create a new word-processed document. Make sure your name, centre number and candidate number will appear on every page of this document. Save this document in your work area as j2431evidence_ followed by your centre number_candidate number, for example j2431evidence_ZZ999_9999 You will use this as your Evidence Document during the examination. Task 2 – Spreadsheet 1 Open and examine the file j2431divers.csv This file will be used in Step 2. Do not make any changes to this file. Open and examine the file j2431splendid.csv in a spreadsheet. Rows 9 to 32 will show the number of sightings of the splendid toadfish on each reef for one week in February. Rows 35 onwards show the details of all sightings for this week. Place your name, centre number and candidate number left-aligned in the footer. Place the automated file name with no file path on the right in the footer. Save this as a spreadsheet with the filename Splendid_ followed by your centre number_ candidate number, for example Splendid_ZZ999_9999 [2] 2 Place a replicable formula in cell C35 to look up the type of diver, using their name and the external file j2431divers.csv for the array. Replicate this formula for all divers. [7] 3 Place in cell B3 a formula to count the total number of sightings for a 7 day period. [2]

3 0983/31/M/J/24 © UCLES 2024 [Turn over 4 Place in cell B4 a formula to count the total number of sightings for a 7 day period where a photograph was taken. [3] 5 Place in cell B5 a formula to count the total number of sightings for a 7 day period where a photograph was taken that held the GPS location of the fish. [3] 6 Place a replicable formula in cell B9 to display the number of sightings at this reef where a photograph with GPS was taken. Replicate this formula for each reef. [7] 7 Format the top of your spreadsheet so that it looks like this: Splendid toadfish sightings A B 41 34 30 Number of sightings 1 0 Number of sightings in 7 day period Number of sightings with photograph Number of sightings with photo and GPS Location with photo and GPS Reef name Maracaibo Chun Chacaab 1 2 3 4 6 7 8 9 10 5 Make sure cells A1 to B1 and B7 to B8 are merged. Set the font size of the text in row 1 to 22 points. Save your spreadsheet. [5] 8 Select only cells A1 to C75 and print these cells with the formulae displayed. Make sure: • the printout is in landscape orientation • the row and column headings are displayed • the contents of these cells are fully visible. [2]

Question paper, page 4

4 0983/31/M/J/24 © UCLES 2024 9 Select rows 1 to 8 inclusive and only the rows between 9 and 32 where a sighting took place. Take a screenshot of the method used to select these rows (between 9 and 32). Place this screenshot in your Evidence Document. Print this selection showing the values. Make sure: • the printout fits on a single page • the printout is in portrait orientation • the row and column headings are displayed • the contents of all the cells in the selected rows are fully visible. [4] [Total: 35] Task 3 – File management 10 Create a new folder called j2431 Locate only the following files and store them in your j2431 folder. j2431contact.jpg j2431location.jpg j2431logo.png j2431splendid.jpg j2431style.css j2431text.txt Display the contents of your j2431 folder, showing the folder name, all file names, file extensions, file sizes and image dimensions. The cell contents shown in the diagram must not appear on the final web page. Table borders must not appear on the final web page. It shows the basis on which Examiners were instructed to award marks. It does not indicate the details of the discussions that took place at an Examiners’ meeting before marking began, which would have considered the acceptability of alternative answers. Mark schemes should be read in conjunction with the question paper and the Principal Examiner Report for Teachers. Cambridge International will not enter into discussions about these mark schemes. Cambridge International is publishing the mark schemes for the May/June 2024 series for most Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge International A and AS Level and Cambridge Pre-U components, and some Cambridge O Level components.

0983/31 Cambridge IGCSE (9–1) – Mark Scheme PUBLISHED May/June 2024 © Cambridge University Press & Assessment 2024 Page 2 of 15 Generic Marking Principles These general marking principles must be applied by all examiners when marking candidate answers. They should be applied alongside the specific content of the mark scheme or generic level descriptions for a question. Each question paper and mark scheme will also comply with these marking principles. GENERIC MARKING PRINCIPLE 1: Marks must be awarded in line with:  the specific content of the mark scheme or the generic level descriptors for the question  the specific skills defined in the mark scheme or in the generic level descriptors for the question  the standard of response required by a candidate as exemplified by the standardisation scripts. GENERIC MARKING PRINCIPLE 2: Marks awarded are always whole marks (not half marks, or other fractions). GENERIC MARKING PRINCIPLE 3: Marks must be awarded positively:  marks are awarded for correct/valid answers, as defined in the mark scheme. However, credit is given for valid answers which go beyond the scope of the syllabus and mark scheme, referring to your Team Leader as appropriate  marks are awarded when candidates clearly demonstrate what they know and can do  marks are not deducted for errors  marks are not deducted for omissions  answers should only be judged on the quality of spelling, punctuation and grammar when these features are specifically assessed by the question as indicated by the mark scheme. The meaning, however, should be unambiguous. GENERIC MARKING PRINCIPLE 4: Rules must be applied consistently, e.g. in situations where candidates have not followed instructions or in the application of generic level descriptors. GENERIC MARKING PRINCIPLE 5: Marks should be awarded using the full range of marks defined in the mark scheme for the question (however; the use of the full mark range may be limited according to the quality of the candidate responses seen). GENERIC MARKING PRINCIPLE 6: Marks awarded are based solely on the requirements as defined in the mark scheme. Marks should not be awarded with grade thresholds or grade descriptors in mind.

Its Latin name is Sanopus splendidus and it is primarily found in the waters around the island of Cozumel in Mexico. In recent years some have been spotted in Belize and on the mainland coast of the Yucatan near Cancun. Whether these isolated viewings are due to natural influences or the influence of man is unknown. These are very difficult to spot as their dens tend to be below small coral outcrops, usually with a sand patch in the lee of the predominantly South to North current. They are rarely seen during the day outside their den.</p> <p>Like all toadfish it has a flat, broad head and barbells. Its eyes are located on the top of its head and it has small sharp teeth. It is a predator eating smaller fish and crustaceans. Unlike other toadfish it has vibrant colours which range from blue-grey to purple, with black, blue or grey stripes. Its fins are rimmed with bands of bright yellow.</p> <p>Although this species is not critically endangered it is listed as being extremely vulnerable and is often very difficult to locate.</p> </td> <td style="height:20%;"> <img src="j2431location.jpg" alt="Location button"> </td> </tr> <tr> Title accurate and in head section 1 mark j2431style.css attached in head section 1 mark j2431css2_ZZ999_9999.css below j2431style 1 mark Table style="width:85%;" 1 mark Single table used 1 mark Row 1 colspan="2" 1 mark style="height:20%;" 1 mark Row 2 & 4 rowspan="2" 1 mark style="width:60%;" 1 mark Appropriate alternate text to all 3 still images 1 mark
