I asked my father to allow me to take it home and rear* it. My father agreed, and he took out a rope and fastened it around the neck of the little pig. Carrying a gun, holding the pig by the rope, I went home along the river. Halfway there, the pig suddenly broke free of the rope, and ran into the woods. I ran after it as fast as I could, but eventually I lost sight of it. I was angry and sad and, sitting behind a large stone by the river, my tears flowed endlessly. At dusk, I saw my father walking along the river towards me. I stood up and told him that the pig had escaped. My father was very surprised and asked, “Have you really been sitting there all this time?” I hurriedly tried to explain myself, but my father shook his head, pointing to the fresh footprints on the river bank, and said, “Look, what is that?” I examined the footprints and asked, “Have some deer passed this way?” My father nodded, “Indeed! For the sake of that small pig, you missed a whole herd of deer!” [40] *to rear: … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … …
